Cheers N Paint Studio Owners

Cheers N Paint: A True Family-Owned Art Studio in Cary, NC

As an owner with a degree in accounting, keeping the financial records was natural for me.  I also am responsible for sourcing art materials and equipment, paying artists and monthly bills, and keeping the books up to date.

Cheers N Paint’s other owner, my wife, has great people skills which she has developed over many years in Human Resources.  She works tirelessly to ensure staffing levels are right, regulations are met, and contract artists submit hours as required.

Our daughter, the artist and studio manager, is responsible for everything else from creating art to tracking inventory to making sure our customers get the individual attention they deserve.

Adapting and Thriving: How Our Cary Art Studio Stayed Strong

Recently, we discovered the real meaning behind “family-operated” during an especially busy season at our Cary art studio.  Our daughter, who normally manages the day-to-day studio operations and leads classes, took an extended leave of absence.

Cheers N Paint Studio Operations During Maternity Leave

You might ask why, as we were winding down 2024 and planning 2025, she would take a leave. I did mention we are family owned-and-operated, and well… the time came to add to the family as she delivered a baby boy on New Year’s Day.

While my wife and I were prepared to welcome another family member we were not prepared for all the additional work that came our way. We were immersed into a lot of details that were not part of our usual studio duties. Daily phone calls to Lauren kept us and our local painting studio in Cary going as we learned more about the day-to-day studio operations!

From Accounting to Cleaning: Wearing Many Hats

The accountant became the studio maintenance man. Every week, after the flurry of weekend activity, it was time to deep clean the studio. Bathrooms were scrubbed and disinfected, furniture moved, then floors were swept and mopped, paper goods replenished, aprons brought home for washing, etc. We treat the studio like a second home and want our customers to feel welcome and comfortable.

At the same time, my wife took up all the administrative duties, and there were a lot of them.  Our social media and calendar of events requires constant updating. Parties and staff needed to be scheduled.

Every week before any classes could commence, sample paintings needed to be pulled. (Sounds easy until you realize we have almost 400 canvases in our inventory!). That number is constantly rising as my daughter develops themes for kids’ summer camps, creates specialty canvases for birthday parties, bridal showers, corporate events, or other special occasion parties.

When Kathy wasn’t managing the art, there were always the phone calls and meetings she took with prospective clients. Be it on-site, off-site, or an event at a brewery or community center, Kathy was on it fielding many calls a day.

Artist Instructors Who Make It All Possible

Our artist instructors, a few who have been with us from the beginning of ownership and others who recently joined the studio, were a wonderful asset. They took extra shifts and were so diligent in keeping us aware of any studio needs. Our paint and sip events continued uninterrupted through the Valentine’s Day season as well as birthday parties, kids’ painting and sketching classes, and off-site camps. We are certainly grateful for their extra efforts and feel as if they are part of our family too!

Paint and Sip Events, Art Classes, and More at Cheers N Paint

While Lauren was on leave, and in addition to the normal studio paint and sip events, private parties, and kids’ art classes Cary, NC families enjoy, we prepped for our biggest event of the year, a corporate event via a Zoom Room for 120 painters. Kathy and I chipped in and together sketched 120 canvases, filled 120 paint cups, and loaded 120 of our Cheers N Paint to-go paint kits into our specialty bags. Each finished kit included a sketched canvas, six paint cups, three new brushes, paper plates, towels, and a red solo cup.  Once packaged, they were delivered to the local corporate office who then distributed them across their network of offices.

Welcoming Back Our Cheers N Paint Studio Manager

Luckily, Lauren was back on the job in time to run the event via Zoom. It’s fair to say, it was another successfully run corporate event.  We are proud to say this is the fourth year our Cary art studio has hosted this employee appreciation paint night event for this company!

Happily with Lauren back at the studio, our involvement is less but the same level of service continues. We learned a lot about our business being in the trenches and feel this knowledge will help us manage the studio and make our customer’s experience even better.

Creating Memorable Art Classes in Cary, NC

Lauren jumped back into a busy March, and after the 120-person corporate event, the first in-studio event was a large 50-person party.  We had worked with this local church group helping them coordinate their hospitality time with painting time to make sure all went smoothly.  The studio was rearranged to ensure everyone could socialize and be comfortable at their paint stations.  To guarantee these customers had a memorable time, we brought in two additional artists to help with one-on-one painting tips for our customers.  The finale was a group photo which was taken out in the parking lot – the only way to fit everyone into one shot!
