Special Events for Cheers N Paint’s 5 Year Business Anniversary
To celebrate our 5 year business anniversary and thank our amazing community, we’re offering some special art classes at reduced rates throughout the month of June. These fun, creative sessions are perfect for artists of all ages and skill levels. As with any birthday party, there will be other goodies too! Cheers N Paint’s Story: Reflecting on 5 Creative Years
Birthdays can be both celebratory and nostalgic, so it seems like a perfect time to reflect on our journey, how we got to where we are, and share our successes.
Our story began in early 2020, just as the world was about to change. One of our owners, Bob, who is a real estate professional, discovered an art studio for sale. Our daughter, Lauren, was leaving her job with a graphics printing company and moving to Cary. We are retired from the corporate world and always dreamed of owning and operating a family business. With Bob’s background in real estate and finance, Lauren’s art and elementary education degree, and my background in Human Resources, we decided this was a perfect fit for our family. An art studio; fun, entertaining, and creative – let’s give it a go!
Cheers N Paint’s former owner had been in business for several years and had an established client base, paintings, staff, inventory, and a great brick and mortar location. It was a nice way to step into an established business and make it our own. The purchase was in the process when March 2020 hit. Talk about timing!
Creating Memories with Paint
We had a lot to learn about being business owners, and this was definitely a “baptism by fire.” Although there were many challenges, we embraced the fact that we were forced to rethink the traditional paint and sip model. In the long run, it helped us think outside the box and develop some creative solutions.
Our first step toward pivoting the business to make it our own was to design a new logo and tagline.
“Creating Memories with Paint” came to us while sitting on our patio one summer night. Spitballing ideas, Joe, Lauren’s husband (did I mention we are a FAMILY business?!) coined that term. It fit us perfectly, as we wanted our customers to have a creative and memorable time, but the experience was paramount.
Zoom became the standard for our studio. Companies and families craved time together to enjoy a fun and creative pastime. Live, instructed art classes connected families, friends, and co-workers from all over. They painted, they laughed, they relaxed, and most of all, they took a break from the realities of Covid.
We also took this time to rebuild our website and develop a bigger presence on social media. Our staff went through changes, as some moved out of the area. We’ve been lucky enough to find new talented and enthusiastic art instructors. One of our fabulous artists, who has been with us since we opened, is a college friend of my daughter-in-law and joined Cheers N Paint when she was relocating from CT to NC!
Creating Community Through Art
When we were able to, the brick and mortar studio opened and in-person private parties and Paint N Sip events resumed. At this time, we knew it was time to expand our studio offerings. Take a peek at what we now have to offer!
Kid-Friendly Art Classes in Cary, NC
Lauren’s background in art and education led us into the kid’s market. She started painting at a local art school in our neighborhood run out of an art teacher’s home. Building on the weekly classes she helped teach, “Little Splatters” was born. It is an art class offered twice a week teaching kids basic art skills. Some kids join us once or twice and others are members, which means they attend regularly at a discounted rate.
Having a big family ourselves, we recognize the expense of extra-curricular activities. Our goal is to make art classes affordable to show our regular customers how much we appreciate their support. Over time, some of our members have graduated to an advanced art class, still receiving professional instruction, but on an individual basis. This past year, one of our artists asked if she could teach sketching. To that we said, “of course!” Many of our customers have been asking for a drawing class, which is now taught weekly.
Summer Art Camps in Cary, NC
In our second year, we decided to begin a summer art camp program. What a hit! Camp gives kids the chance to use their imagination and create while taking a break from academic rigors. Four years later, we are proud to say that the majority of our campers are either returning campers or were referred by a friend. What a great compliment!
Some of our art counselors, local high school and college students, have been with us for several years. One is now a full-fledged teacher at the studio and another enjoyed her time at camp so much that she joined us last year as a junior counselor.
Adult Paint N Sip Classes in Cary, NC
We didn’t forget about our adult artists, either. The majority of our Paint N Sip class canvases are new, painted by our fabulous staff. Pet portraits offered monthly give owners the chance to paint their fur babies! Acrylic pour, a new flow art technique, is a popular choice with both adults and kids. We added DIY classes, such as hand-knitted chunky blankets, painted wooden signs, bottles, and canvas bags. Many of our new canvases and crafts come from requests from our customers.
Our adult customers appreciate the changes we made to our space and love our spacious studio, professional staff, and separate hospitality space provided to socialize and bring their favorite food and beverages that fit their tastes and budgets.
Studio Improvements Over the Years
The studio has also been renovated over the past 5 years since we took over. We upgraded our art stools, purchased window display shelves, and changed table coverings almost immediately. The walls in the studio were recently painted black (to better display our art) and a new epoxy swirl art floor was installed. New hospitality tables were purchased as well as chairs for our waiting area.
